This can be done, but it's too much work. If you still want to do it then you have to locate this code:

which handles the navigation buttons inside forum pages. This file is placed on every single page that the end user has access to. You need to take it off all those pages. Your next step is to edit the includes\header.asp file. Create a table with two columns, one col for the navigation links, and another for the regular forum and its tables. Scotty has setup a good
tutorial for this, follow it.
Finally, the left column is where you add your vertical navigation menu.
