I work for a professional organization and are very interested in incorporating a discussion forum into our web offerings.

We have been using many list serves for committee discussions, and would like to migrate to a forum.

The issue is we have many members that are on various committees, so we would need a way to be able to assign individual forums to individual members (instead of group assignments).

For instance, one member might need access to forum 1,2,3,4, and 5, while member two would need access to 1 and 5, members three access to 1, 2, and 5. etc.  We would probably have close to 30 different forums spread across nearly 4000 individual members.

Is there a way to do this (and can it be implemented through code modifications).

You can already do this with the forum.

An administrator can set individual permissions per member, giving them access to specific forums.

It can be done via the Admin area, once there you want the Member Permissions link. You can see it on a demo here:
https://www.webwiz.net/web-wiz-forums/forum-demo.htm

It might be difficult to manage with 4000 members, but then I doubt an average forum requires member specific permissions for that many members.

I do have a mod that will list out what members have [url=http://www.s2h.co.uk/wwf/mods/permissions-listing/user specific permissions here[/url], but it wasn't designed for a large usage like yours. Also it is currently out of date, it is only a link in the admin area that would likely need updating on it though.

I had looked at the group permissions, but had missed the individual permissions section... Thanks, that is exactly what I need.

If I where to right a mod to assign members manually, what tables would I have to modify?

tblPermissions if I remember correctly.

If it is an individual member permission, the Forum_ID would be '0'
