Windows XP is not designed to run a webserver though, the registry changes to get IIS on WinXP are merely IMO to provide an environment for developers to test their applications.  If you're wanting to run your own server you really just need a Windows Server OS.

Gullanian,

You are correct. Though I am sure there are many piroted and illegal copies of Windows Server circulating around, if a person wants to be fully and legally compliant, install discs for Windows 2000 server would cost a few hundred. Windows 2003 would cost much more.

Compared to that, $20.00 is a drop in the bucket. Considering this product is the only asp-compatible web server software alternative to IIS, it is also better than nothing.

By the way, Pablo's Software Solutions Web Server works with WWF v8.rc1.

If you plan on releasing software, you can join the MS Empower program. I just joined and it only cost $375.00 USD + taxes ( Angry ). You pretty much get licenses for everything MS has (within reason - e.g. You nobody at this level needs 5 licenses for Windows Datacenter Server).

But, you must release software, however you do it. You get like 5 licenses for a lot of things like XP, office, etc.

There's also the Chilisoft server that does ASP. Not sure about the price though... I think it's a bit steep IIRC.

My handy-dandy Firefox highlight, right-click, and choose "Search Web for..." returns this handy-dandy link:

What about MSDN... they give u free copies of pretty much everything..

over the years..i have collected a lot of MS software from MS partners or as complementry ..i have 3 discs of windows 2003 Ent Edition with 20Cals each Big smile

u can get the free trial version which lasts for 180days.. approx 6 months..and then u can just do a reinstall..but if u are a heavy user / developer.. look into the partner / ISV option

MSDN is pretty expensive for some but if you plan to develop it is almost inevidble. Besides MSND there are not many days anymore to get hands on VS 2005
