hi folks,

Im trying to write a new chatroom, preferably in asp using VB (But asp.net is available).

I need to know how to get the window with all the messages in to refresh, without refreshing. know wot i mean? SO the text updates but there is no flashing and flickering which can be long flickers with dial up.

Any ideas? Is there something in .net maybe i could use? Really want classic ASP tho.

you can do it in classic asp.

but be warned, asp chat rooms are very bandwidth hungry

to do a refreshwithout flicker the best way is:


  1. create a <div> that holds the chat content
  2. create a iframe (hidden).. and set the Iframe to refresh every x seconds.
  3. an on the page that refreshs bring the contant of the Iframe into the inner.html of the Div, showing the new content of the chat.
there by giving a refreshing chatroom without refresh.Big smile
