Can most web spiders read meta tag if it is in ASP (specificly Google and Altavista)?

EX:

<% site_desc="This is a test" %>

<meta name="description" content="<%= site_desc %>">

I don't actually know but I would have though that when the spider goes to you site the ASP will run and it will only see the text.

A bit like when you see forum pages in a search engine. The page is not there until the spider activates it.

Spiders read the web page just as any user would, because they access the page via http just like anyone else...so yes, you can do that if you wish.

If you do a search on the WWG Forum you will find that this has been discussed many times.

You may want to down load Lynx. It's a text-only browser. This is what the spiders see when they crawl your site.

Aumuz, just avoid quotation marks inside dynamic description. But if you need it (for example, I have news headline in title and description of dynamic news pages on my site), just replace regular " with « and »
