ASP Error 0131 - Disallowed Parent Path

	Hi Bruce and others I've recently swapped hosting providers and haven't been able to get my forum up and running again. When I've checked the server log, it's riddled with the above error message (ASP_0131 Disallowed_Parent_Path). I'm on a shared server so have asked the provider to enable Parent Path's but if they can't/won't, is there any workaround that I could do to get it going? Thanks for your help.

	Sorry guys, but I think I'm the offender here :-( After some error checking it appears that an include file has caused the issue. I modded the common.asp file with an include that referenced a settings file in different subfolder of my site The line is: <!-- #include file="../folder/folder/settings.asp" --> (folder names have been removed) The reason I use a relative reference is because I run a development site on a different server, so hard-coding the file location could make testing unstable if I want to change the settings file contents. Other than putting the settings.asp file in the root of the forum folder or using session variables, are there any other suggestions to make this include work?

	Maybe it wasn't just me .. I searched the forum files and there are many references to parent paths (especially in the css files) , so I doubt it will be an easy fix if the hosting provider won't enable them.

	I think where you are getting confused is between server side parent paths and client side. Web Wiz Forums, unless modified, does not use server side parent paths as these are disabled by default in IIS. If you use an unmodified version of web wiz forums it will work fine. Parent paths in CSS or HTML are client side and can not be disabled by the web host as these run in the browser and not server side. Only server side parent paths would be disabled, as already mentioned Web Wiz Forums does not use server side parent paths. If you remove your modifications to call include files outside of the forums root using parent paths you will find it would run.

	Thanks for the explanation Bruce - yes, I was confusing the two. The good news is that my hosting provider has enabled SSI at their end and she's up and running again. Thanks again mate - great support as usual.
