Topic: ASP, Linux and Mac Posted: 23 October 2003 at 12:18pm |
Is there a way to run asp scripts on a linux intranet server (all connected to the same internal network)?
If so can somebody point me in the direction of the software that would allow me to do that.
Also is there a simple way to run asp scripts on a installation of OS10 for Mac servers?
Again if any body can point me in the direction of this software I would very much appreciate it !

I know that you can get something called SUN ONE Active Server pages
(AKA chilisoft) which runs on th *nix platforms. Here is the link
http://wwws.sun.com/software/chilisoft/index.html.
I think that it is quite expensive unfortunately..
Dunno about the mac OS !!!

I last used chilisoft a couple of years ago. Not quite standard asp. Somethings didn't work. Nothing that you couldn't work around, but not a lot of windows asp ran first time. Don't know if Sun addressed any of that.
IIRC, I saw something about open source *nix asp support. You may want to check out sourceforge.
Are you the guy who was looking to search MS office docs on a windows drive from their linux server? If so, you might want to check out Sun's Open/Star Office for linux. Might have a component you can use to search ms office docs from linux.

I think we have SuSe (at home at mo, so can't check) as an installation and by the looks of things that means that chillsoft won't run. Which is a real shame because its looks perfect!
Thanks for your help, really appreciated and even if its not provided a completly solution, it does give ideas.
If you have any other ideas then I as always I would very much like to hear it!

Yeah the problem is that ASP was not designed to run on anything
besides Windows (M$ way of making sure they have the monopoly )
The only suggestion I could make is to download, the chilsoft demo
version, I have used it before on SUSE and it seemed to be ok(ish.) The
other suggestion would be to use PHP instead, as this is designed for
*nix.

You can also look into a Cobalt Raq Appliance as they already have it built in to the OS. I have one and I use it for my development needs.

You can find used ones on ebay for pretty good prices.
