I've just upgraded from 9.68 to 9.70. I was using the web.config URL Rewrite rules perfectly OK to give me SEO friendly stuff. But now, on upgrading to 9.70 I'm getting a 500 error (friendly turned off and that's all I'm getting). Removed and changed to .htaccess, but the error remains?

Reverted to back-up of 9.68 and it's working fine. Has something changed with the URL Rewrite as it's certainly causing me a great deal of grief. Would love to upgrade 9.70 (are there any other settings anywhere I might need to change)?

Okay - checked this and no you're not hosting on web wiz servers -  sorry I thought you were. As far as I know there has been no changes in the rewrite, but Bruce will be able to help you I'm sure

If there was an issue with the URL Rewrite then you would get a 404 page not found error. The 500 internal server error means that there is another problem with your forum.

To know the exact issue you would need to have detailed error messages enabled for your website and classic ASP setup to send error messages to the browser. This will tell us exactly what the issue is.

I suspect though that the problem is that you are not upgrading correctly. Make sure that you following the upgrade instructions below:-

If the website your having problems with is the one in your profile, the it could be because you are using my mods which have not yet been updated to be compatible with V9.70 yet.

Bruce ... I always go through the upgrade installation procedures correctly (and this is the first error I've encountered since 2002)!

However, I tried turning off and then back on again ASP Rewrite rules on my hosted server CP. Oddly enough this seems to have done the trick!! And, I had also deleted the web.config file in the forum root directory.

Strange things seem to happen to these machines at times Shocked. Scotty, it wasn't any of your mods that caused this as I did a totally virgin intall/upgrade and that did not work. Even after totally cleaning the forum directory and uploading the 9.70 I was suffering the dreaded 500 error.

I only implement all my mod changes etc. to the forum on each upgrade after I know it's working correctly from a vanilla install. Incidentally, your mods are great (which I've now purchased) and have never caused any previous hardships/error!!

So ... now I'm a happy bunny with my forum running as smoothly as it has for the past 8.5 years on Bruce's superb ASP based software!
