Two subforums I would like to use as "Upcoming Events" and "Past Events" - however, if the events aren't entered in chronological order (which is not feasible since new events may come up on short notice, and some upcoming events are scheduled months in advance), they do not show in proper order. How can I bypass this issue?

Can I set a default sort somehow for a particular subforum? If I can, I figured I can start each post subject with the event date and it would sort that way... Is it possible to sort ascending/descending or just ascending?

Thanks!

Just an idea/suggestion? - perhaps if a forum can be designated as an "Events Only" forum, it can sort by the first day of the event?

This is already available but in the Calender system, for example the page below:-

I saw that; but I can't get a list of events with the calendar. Users would have to click each blue (hyperlinked) day to see what is in it. I tried to use a separate forum to list all events, one for upcoming and one for past, but apparently can't sort by the event dates, only the date each event was entered.

The idea is that some months are pretty event-free, so users would have no idea an event is coming up unless they page through all the months. Some events are 6 or more months in advance, meaning users would have to click through at least six months to get to the events! If they don't page through each month on the calendar, the events outside the month (ie most events) are not promoted, and users will not have sufficient time to plan. This also begs the question, why would someone come back to the calendar if the month is barely populated with info, even if the next months may be full? It would seem to the users the calendar is not maintained. In this sense the calendar function is very limited for its purpose or promoting events.

This is why I tried to create a forum that listed all the events, but due to the inability to sort by event date, it just seems so clunky.
