Mail errors

My users have been getting the following errors:

Persits.MailSender.4 error '800a0006'
550 5.1.1 <>... User unknown
/forum/forum/functions/functions_send_mail.asp, line 269

or

Persits.MailSender.4 error '800a0004'
Connection refused.
/forum/forum/functions/functions_send_mail.asp, line 269

However, even though they get the error, the message is posted anyway.

The last time this happened, I downloaded the database and discovered that some people were "Watching" a forum that did not have an email address set.  Once I deleted their "Watches", the problem disappeared.  This is an unsatisfactory solution, because it requires me to edit records at the database level.

Questions:

1) has anyone else noticed this problem

2) can I *require* an email address

I assume you are referring to the following line:

If lngEmailUserID <> lngLoggedInUserID AND strUserEmail <> "" Then

This is a completly different error (you should have started a new topic).

This error means that your host has probally setup the mail server to only send to local email addresses.

Check with your web host as to authentication settings on the mail server.
