ok, I'll back up the DB, move the current version off, and then install fresh.
 
I'll let you know how I get on.

ok I've done that, the new fresh forum is at www.sheepspeed.com/forum it is the only one installed on the server, and it works perfectly. So I guess this rules out a server fault so must be a DB problem?
 
Can I sent the DB to someone to take a look?

Thanks for all your advice and ideas, this has now been resolved. it looks like a ran the database tool twice, which doubled up a few users and groups
