Hi to all.

I am curently using WWF V7.01 Access version.

My Access DB is over 70MB big, and 80% of the time, things are moving very very slowly (I am hosting on a shared plan).

I thaught of moving to a dedicated server in hope that things will speed up a bit, but i was recomaded to move from an Access DB to a MySql or SQL server db, instead.

Now i have integrated the WWF in to my site completly and made a lot of visual changes to it, so simply converting my Access DB to SQL and installing the WWF SQL version, is NOT AN OPTION.

My question is this:

Will my WWF Access version work with MySql or Sql, by simply converting the DB and updating the connection strings to use Sql ?

Will all the forum functions and queries work with sql, or would i have to make changes to them.

If i have to make changes, what kind of changes are we talking about ?

BTW: What are "Stored Procedures" ?

Thanks !!!

1. The forum only supports Access or MS SQL Server 2000, not mySQL

2. The only difference in teh forum files bewteen the Access and SQL server version is you need to set the database type to SQL server in the common.asp files and place your SQL server details in the SQL connection file in the admin area.

3. The MS SQL Server version uses stored procedures so you need to create the stored procedures on the SQL server by running the SQL server setup file found in the SQL server version.

Stored procedures are queries and procedures that are stored on the server, this helps performance as these quiries in the SQL server version are compiled on the database server and also reduces network traffic.

Just to clarify :

1) No WWF of any version , support My Sql ? I always thaught that its the same like SQL Server - shows how mutch i know...

2)Where exactly is "the SQL connection file in the admin area" ?

Does this file exist on the ACCESS version of the WWF as well , or do i have to get it from a SQL WWF version ?

3) Doing this and the above, will all my other ACCESS Based MODS, like the USER login on main site page, Last forum posts etc. , work with the new SQL Server Database ?

Thanks !

If MySql were to be = to MsSQL, why would any one waste 1000's of dallars on microsoft when their equivalent is free...No theya ren't the same. But both are query language. I think you gotta mess with settings on commcon.asp in the main folder. Not sure but there is also a SQL verion on download section. I would go with the new download. I belveive there are no differences between two (except database).

Web Wiz Forums won't run with mySQL without re-writting almost 90% of the files in the forum software.

The SQL_server_connection.asp file is in the Access version, just not used if the database type is set to Access.

Some mods won't work with SQL server, but as I don't have any knowledge of any of the mods I can't tell you which ones.
