Topic: Alpha of v10 and time line Posted: 25 January 2008 at 10:16pm |

It said there was an alpha version of this available somewhere? Can someone provide a location or link. I'd be interested in checking it out. I've been using an old free version, and will be purchasing the new one when it comes out, as many of the features that are in this one are integral to our site. We will have to do some personal modding though, based on things we currently do, so I kind of wanted to check out the code, and give our coders a heads up on how to proceed.
Additionally, is there a time line for release on this? I didn't see one. Thanks.

This site is running the Alpha, and i doubt Bruce will release it untill its finished. As for timeline i dont think a date is set in stone but you should check the V10 Development Blog.

Yeah, thanks for the response, I'd checked that post out already and there was no mention of a time line, that's why I thought I'd ask.
I also noticed that this forum was running the beta, and liked the ideas they were incorporating.
Anyways, thanks...

This forum is presently running an alpha version.
Alpha versions are before Beta versions. Alpha versions are generally in house testing, they only become public test releases when they go into the beta faze.
The first beta of version 10 will more likely be towards the end of February as there is a massive amount of development work with the new blogging tools.

Ok, sounds good. And do you typically release beta versions to willing guinea pigs? :) The new features look great btw.

Yes, beta releases are generally available to all. Although as they are not usually for production servers and as database changes are still likely before the final release it is not recommended that you upgrade a production forum to a beta as you may get stuck with an unstable beta.
