[edited after looking at the above topic link, which i should have done before posting, but wanted to include the repro steps below for reference]
for me, if i login from forum/default.asp, login is successful and i am returned to forum/default.asp.
if i navigate from forum/default.asp to forum/login_user.asp?returnURL= and then login, login is successful, but the return attempt results in a HTTP1.1 500 server error.
just to see if this was being caused by an incorrect setting with SQL or my site configuration, i also installed version 8.06, with the result being that the same steps above both log me in successfully and return me to the start page with v8.06.
i have not yet created any forum topics, so i do not have data for login attempts from topic pages.
