If members stay logged in, does it tax the server?

Does staying logged into a Web Wiz forum use up any of the server resources? CPU usage? Is being logged in a server sesson? Is it negligible or does it take up a lot of resource?

It's just a longer expiry date on the cookie set to the users computer. Doesn't affect the server certainly.
