I've just done a trial run with converting my Snitz forum to WWF. After solving initial problems of Snitz having managed to duplicate 5 user ID's (!!) and then realising I was try to update a version 8 WWF Acess db, I finally got it sorted using a v7 db and upgrade to v8.

Trouble is, now I can't login in!! The new login_user.asp page in the conversion thread in the old v7 forum doesn't work with v8. I saw mention of a Forgotten Password link. I can't seem to find that?!? Can anyone point me in the right direction or let me know if there's a v8 version of login_user.asp for a Snitz conversion.

Even better would be a utility to convert the old snitz passwords to the new WWF format. Is this feasable? I have a feeling not (one way encryption?) but worth an ask!

I think snitz use there own MD5 code, like wwf even have there own. So if you copy the passwords there will be else. You can change your pass in the db, A85B3E67CFA695D711570FB9822C0CF82871903B is "letmein". Now you can log in and change passwords to a default for the members(or make a script) so there can change it self.

So far as i know is there no tool to get the MD5 snits to MD5 wwf.

Or you can try edit the md5 script from borg to that one of snits

Good luck

Well it got me in, thanks. I've also spotted how blind I was in missing the Forgotten Password link on the login page! Should be good enough to get through the migration proper and force everyone to get themselves a new password. i'd rather stick with the WWF MD5 to save any future hassles.

If you use Snitz it used SHA256 (256 bit) encryption. But Web Wiz Forums uses SHA1 (160bit) encryption.

What you need to do is find the files in the Snitz conversion thread and overwrite the forums default ones. That way your users don't have to be issued with new passwords.

Have a re-read of my first post and the conversion thread. The files supplied in the conversion thread are for v7 and don't work with v8.

It's less hassle to use the 160bit encryption built into WWF. If the login_user.asp or register.asp pages have to change in a future update, I don't have to recode them again. If WWF officialy moves to SHA256, then I will move with it.
