Slow Performance

Something else to check is avatars/sig images/images on the page being served.  Sometimes they're remotely hosted on a server that's either very slow itself, or requires some convoluted - and therefore slow - connection to get to them.

There was an issue here a while ago where one member hosted his avatar on his local machine that was only accessible via a slow dialup. Pages with his avatar took forever to load and sometimes the connection timed out.
