Hope someone can help with this....

I have 18000 posts on my site now after deleting old topics.  The default.asp page counts all the posts in each forum.  This is incredibly slow, i think this is because it is access.

Can anyone provide a solution?  SQL Server is not an option im affraid.  And i dont have access to the IIS servers config.

Hopefully someone knows how to speed it up without removing the "Posts" column.

Cheers

Matt

Try removing the number of forums you have in total.

The post count on the default.asp page will not slow things, but the number of forums you have listed will.

Usually after deleting a bunch of things, it's usefull to do a compact and restore on an access db.

Lead me not into temptation... I know the short cut, follow me.

removing the number of forums? u mean like merging 2 into 1 and so on?  Not really possible, theyre all needed.

If i delete a load of posts from the database as a test, it speeds it up making it instant.

Borg can u elaborate on the removing number of forums.

Cheers guys

It sounds like the server you are on doesn't have enough resorces to cope with larger Access databases.

Try compacting and repairing the database as a temporary option to speed things up, but I thinks it's time you either moved to MS SQL Server or found another web host that allows more server resources for your site.
