I transferred the forum database from one server to another, and now when trying to make a new post, the following error occurs:

Server Error in Forum Application
An error has occured while writing to the database.
Please contact the forum administrator.

Support Error Code:- err_SQLServer_save_new_topic_data
File Name:- new_post.asp

Error details:-
ADODB.Recordset
Current Recordset does not support updating. This may be a limitation of the provider, or of the selected locktype.

What did I do wrong?

The database has not moved across correctly to the new server.

Another option to try is try setting a different locktype for the database update at line 727 of new_post.asp:-

.LockType = 2

By setting to 2 will give a worse performance, but shouldn't be noticable and should sort out the problem.

Let me know if it works?

Didn't work. Is there an order to transfer the tables one by one? or is it okay if all tables are transferred together at the same time?

I usually use the DTS import/export tools, and select to import/export everything except user roles and permissions

Is it okay for the db to be transferred from SQL Server Express to SQL Server 2000Question Because that's how it is now..it is sitting on a express and I'm trying to transfer it to 2000.

I've never tried going back to an old database version of SQL server, and may well be the problem.

SQL Express does has limitations and one of them is in transferring databases.

Sorry but what does this have to do with a topic on a recordset problem with SQL Server upgrade?

Please start a new topic if you have a totally unrelated question.
