Topic: More Than One Install Posted: 22 December 2004 at 6:14pm |
I have a free hosting service that doesn't offer ASP. I do have a DSL connection to the internet with a static IP. So I set up a web server computer and run it 24/7. It's a WindowsXP machine. I installed IIS, an email server, and Web Wiz.
It was all working perfect until I installed a second WebWiz Forum on the same computer. They are installed in separate folders and are using databases with different names in different locations. But they seem to be sharing some information. Like the graphic at the top left of every page (default = Web Wiz Forums graphic). When I set the file location and link address for that graphic in one forum, it changes it in the other forum too! H E L P !!!
Can Web Wiz Forums be installed twice on the same computer? I need two totally different Web Wiz forums running on the same computer.
TIA,
Rocky

yes WWF can be installed on more than one website.
your problem is that the 2 forumsd are in the same application pool.
so to fix this you need to turn off 1 or both applicatiion veriables in the common.asp files.
this will then stop the problem, yopu can run the application veriables on one of the forums.
the best way is to download the lite version of WWF for the second forum, this has all the Modifications done already.

Oops, wrong... Most of it's working like a charm, but the email activation is NOT.
I can email myself a message from the forum, but when I new user registers, it all looks like it's working (the forums says it's sending the activation email and all) but the user never gets the email.
Why would the email a user a message work, but the new user activation NOT work???
TIA

they should, if its all set up correct as it sounds it is.
which one is it not working ion , one with Application veriables or without. or is it disabled on both?
are the paths correct, what email component are you using, CDONTS can cut links and sometimes not send if the link is to long?

I only disabled the Application Variables on the second forum.
Now the new user activation email doesn't seem to be working on either forum.
I'm using the CDOSYS email component setting. I have it set to work with both forums with a email program (SmartMail), which worked perfect when I was only running one forum.

Oops again!!!! Sorry. There is NO problem with the forum. The problem was with the Anti-Virus software on the web server. I updated the Anti-Virus software last week and it added a new module that checks incoming and out going email for viruses. I turned that new module off, and all is well.
I noticed there is a update to that email virus checking module. Maybe I'll try updating it then turning it back on.
Thanks again for your help, and thanks for this GREAT forum.
