Hey all. I did some searching on the forums and couldn't find an answer to this. So, here's my problem:

It seems that anyone that uses a hotmail.com e-mail account to register cannot successfully activate his/her account. They get the typical "there is a problem with your activataion...please e-mail the administrator...etc.".

I'm guessing this happens since links in a Hotmail e-mail open in a new window in a frame (the top frame says something about "you are visiting a site outside of Hotmail"...and the bottom frame is WWF page).

Has anyone else seen this happen? Any ideas on how to fix it?

As always, thanks for the great help!!!

Having the link open in a new window shouldn't effect the link.

As long as the code is still attached to the end of the link it should work.

Hotmail does something funky with the link though. It does opens it in a new window (which, as you said, isn't a problem...lots of e-mail programs do this). However, that new window consists of 2 frames (a small top frame with text that says "you are visiting a site outside of hotmail", and the bottom frame that has the actual page...in this case, the WWF page). It simply doesn't seem to work. I've had a few Hotmail people complain about this already.

So, I guess the question is...

If that special activation link is opened in a frameset, would it break it?

Thanks boRg...and keep it up. Your stuff is great.

A frameset shouldn't prevent the activation link from working.

Although Hotemail accounts are always a pain.

On this site I have setup the forum not to allow Hotmail email addresses, the main reason for this is that Hotmail anti-spam settings very often bounce back emails that are sent by applications/scripts on sites.

Blocking Hotmail email addresses doesn't seem to be a big problem, out of 7,000 people who have signed up to this board I only have had around 1 or 2 emails per year from people about not being able to use, Hotmail, Yahoo, and AOL, email addresses.

Hotmail accounts are indeed a pain in the arse due to the framing crap that MS pulled a couple of years ago. I dug around the internet while working on a separate project for a "frame buster" script. Also, this has been documented a few times here on the board.

Interesting way to handle it. I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

It's strange that some Hotmail users seem to be fine and have no problems signing up for an account while others get stuck in cookie hell (I'm guessing it's a cookie issue).

Regardless, thanks for the links. When will MS learn?!
