It was great! I'm ASP illiterate and the installation went off without a hitch.

and all of the sudden I'm getting

HTTP/1.1 500 Server Error

showing up when I try to access the forums. Frustrating.

Any ideas? How do I even go about trouble shooting this? I "reuploaded" the software and attempted to reenter the login_user.asp page, but it's just blank.

Please help. Subbu.

1st you need to turn off friendly http error messages in IE (if you are unsure how there is a link to an article in the forum guidelines).

Once you have done this you will get an accurate error message which will help find what the problem is.

So it seems that my forums work on a spotty basis. It was working fine all day while I continued to modify the skin. I entered a rules/guidelines post, and since then it's been spotty - that is to say, it either loads onto my browser or it doesn't.

The two messages that I receive are:

1. "Not enough storage is available to process this command." which isn't the case. I'm only using 8% of my webspace right now.

2. "The RPC server is too busy to complete this operation." i have no idea what this means.

any ideas anyone?

Subbu.

These are both server errors and not the fault of the forum software.

1. The server is overloaded, Access only has a pool of 20 connections per server shared with all sites and this limit is used up, or the server has run out of memory.

If you can use the MS SQL Server version or move to a better web host.

2. Again, this error usually means the server is overloaded. Sometimes allow more connections to your site can fix this problem.

I would get onto your web host and ask them to sort out these issues, if they are reluctant to do so, it's time to look for a better hosting company, preferably one that supports MS SQL Server as it is much better database system for handling things like forums that put to much strain on Access databases.

i've been using the sql version (in fact, i moved from a server that supported access to one that supports sql just so i could use the sql version of the forums).

it could be that the server is overloaded - and not because of my site, which is what i think.

so, after i wrote last my site actually went down. my host said that all the problems occurred only after uploading the forum. they haven't heard of web wiz before and they assumed that the forum was "buggy," and they removed it and suggested that I use snitz, which is what most of their clients use. I was upset because in my opinion, web wiz is so much more robust.

and then guess what happened. the same problems continued, even after the removal of the forums. i hired an outside programmer who lives in India (I'm in Chicago) to develop an asp based image rotator for my site. he sent me emails overnight saying that the server was down again and he couldn't proceed with his demo. the site was up this morning, he uploaded the demo (which consisted of an ini page, two .asp pages), and we were playing with it and the site went down again.

this is what my host had to say:

"This server is our newest server and experiences the lightest amount of load during the day. We have not had a problem with it until we began to see correspondence from you about your site. We do not know the specific cause of the errors so we can not make recommendations on your code. We do know that after removing the forum the situation did seemed relieved. We are working to resolve the issue so you may want put off any major development for a day or so, until we can find the cause."

operative words there are "seemed relieved."

I'm hoping that they find the cause b/c I'm certain it's not the forum. if they don't, i'm seriously thinking about moving to another host.

Any comments on this?

Any recommendations on hosting services from people who own sites that are running web wiz forum hosted by US based hosts? Please offer suggestions - I have a feeling I may have to move to a new host.

Forums are a central part of my site and I want web wiz. If I need to move to a new host, I'd rather move to one that is familiar with web wiz.

There is certainly nothing wrong with the coding in web wiz forums, I've made certain of that by checking all db cpnnections are closed etc. 100's of times and the code is very clean and is laid out in an simple to follow fashion.
