My forum was running slow so I used the "compact and repair" tool in admin. (V7.96)

Now I am getting this error:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d'

Type mismatch: 'CDate'

/new/forum/default.asp, line 166

This is so strange.  While waiting for a response, I went out and did errands, came back and now my board is working again.

I didn't do anything to it after I posted this problem.

I think I am in the Twilight Zone.

A couple of things I would recommend.

If you upgrade to version 8.01 it uses a different way of doing dates so you shouldn't get CDate errors.

The other one, is if you have database support with your hosting for SQL Server or mySQL, I would switch to using that as Access is a desktop file and has a bad problem of becoming corrupted.

First of all I think what happened was I after I activated the compact and repair, I went to a page.  I hadn't given it enough time to do it's thing.

And I have to giggle, because Bruce you are determined to get me to upgrade to the new V8.  Is this the final version that is ready for download now?
I kinda want to wait until all the bugs are worked out.  It took me over a year to upgrade to 7.97!

I host with godaddy, and I haven't really looked at , but I know they offer me 10 sql databases with my hosting plan.  So yesterday I was looking on here trying to find out how to switch over to that instead of access, but the search on the site wouldn't let me kept getting the message "one of your querys is 3 characters or less" Confused

So if there is a good thread that shows the step by step migration to sql, can someone point it out for me.  I am thinking I would like to try it.

Version 8 final is now out and been downloaded over 1500 times.

No bugs have been found in it, although people keep saying they find them, but they all seem to be that people have not setup the software to work with their server correctly.

GoDaddy from posts on here are not a good web host. You will need to check with them the SQL database they support and the version. Watch out because SQL Server and mySQL are 2 completely different databases.

The reason why upgrades are free on web wiz guide software is to cut down on support time and costs by only supporting the latest version, so you should upgrade as soon as possible.

OK I just checked out my hosting at godaddy.  They offer all 3.  Access, mySQL and SQL.

Which one do I want?

MS SQL Server 2000 or 2005 will give the best performance.

But I do recall another user with GoDaddy who said that they don't allow remote connections to their SQL Server database, which meant they could not backup or move the database to another web host.

I would recommend moving away from GoDaddy to a better host, as reports on this forum are not very good.
