it appears my last access date is always Jan. 23 never the last visit date and time.  i'm not sure if it's me or a bug.

Try clearing your cookie cache on your browser.

If this fails, wait for the next beta version as the system that gets the dates has been completely re-written.

deleted them but still get Jan 23.

note also that i'm getting a javascript error on the login which may be somehow related to the problem.

As the whole system has been re-written for beta 2, it maybe best to wait for the beta 2 release and see if this issue has cleared up.

The JavaScript error on the login page should be fixed for the next release, which will not show the CAPTCHA image till after the 3rd unsuccessful login attempt on that account.
