    Posted: 28 January 2006 at 5:54pm

Hi,

This isn't a bug, since I've seen this in WWf through the whole 7-series, and therefore believe it's made like that with purpose. But it still annoys me in some way :)

in this forum it says that the topic "Web Wiz Forums version 8 known issues" last post was 11 Jan 2006 at 2:30 PM by -Borg

That is correct, but also in some ways wrong. I'll explain:
When you select "View last post" on the topic, you'll actually see that the topic was last edited Yesterday (28.01.2006) at 11:49pm.

I know that there is a big difference between last edited, and last post, but anyway: users are given just half the thruth.

It's true that there hasn't been any new posts, but it's not true that it hasn't been edited since last post was made.

I therefore believe that there should be made some kind of changes to the way this function works, because it's a bit misleading.

Have you thought over it, -Borg? I really think that it would be remade so that it would reflect the purpose of the function in a better way.

Cheers!
Kristoffer

It's a nice idea, but in order to get such a thing to work, weeks of coding would be needed and extra database fields and more database hits.

This would have a big impact on performance, for the gain that would be achieved I don't think that such a thing would be much of an advantage.

Hmm... I'm not sure that extra db hits would be needed.

As it is today, when you edit a post of yours it will generate hits to db 'cause it needs to update the message field (I presume). Would it then be so hard to also make it update the last post field?

If you let the "Post edited message" button do the same as a "Post topic " button, then it should work fine, shouldn't it? :)

The problem then is that the last post date sorts the order of the posts.

If your way was used it would mean that if you edited your first post in this topic, after editing it, the post would become tha last post in the topic, underneath this one.

hmm...

Yeah, you have a good point, but I still think that there must be some kind of way to do this on, which makes us able to always have the correct information.

Does phpbb, invisionboard and vbulletin also do it this way? Or have they come up with a good solution on it? :)

I've not seen any forums that do it in the way you mention, and have never had anyone ask for such a thing before.
