I loaded the forums on a new host, and while it worked great on the other host, the new host is having issues.

It seems that it isn't recognizing the login info of the users, or anything in any of the tables.

My developer friend says I need to make the database updatebale.

What does this mean, and how do I do that?

You need to place the database in a folder that has write permissions enabled.

Contact your web hosting company.

I am having the same issue, and I understand the simple solution, although the webhost insists its read/writeable, and when i go in using a ftp program, the properties show the same thing.

Is there anything else that needs to be fixed?  I read something about the DNS setting?

The webhost - OC-Net.com, has horrible tech support and customer service - its only 9-4, M-F...   Any suggestions on who I should advise my friend to switch to?

Thanks for your time.

if the files and folders are write enabled then i would try re uploading the database and try a compact and repair, it maybe damaged and corruptted.

but if they are within the write directory you shouldn't have any roblems as boRg said
