    Posted: 19 January 2006 at 10:40am

Hi.  I'm trying to get email notifications working on a version 7.9 board installed on a server running NT, so far completely without success.  Far as I can tell, the emails just don't get sent.

A test utility (dmxready_server_test.asp) confirms that CDONTS is available on the server.

Settings on the configuration form are:
Component: CDONTS (NT4/Win2k)
Outgoing server: localhost
Website name: My website (presumably this can be anything?)
Path to forum: http://mydomainname.co.uk/1stfoldername/2ndfoldername/3rdfoldername (the forum is deliberately buried a bit)
Email address: my normal email address (not related to the forum)
Email Notify: On
Send Post with Notification: On
Email Activation: Off
Built in Email Client: On

Is anything obviously wrong with these settings?  Or can anyone suggest anything else I can try?  I'm really up against it because I'm due to relaunch this existing board in a couple of days ! ! !   Would be grateful for any help.

Thanks

Dedge

Do you get an error message when sending emails?

If not, then the forum code is sending the emails and the problem lies with your SMTP server.

make sure the SMTP server you are using is relaying on the emails and they are not just stuck in the SMTP servers QUEUE or PICKUP folders.

Thanks very much for the suggestions, -borg-.  No error messages, so I contacted the server company.  No email logjam in the SMTP folders, either.  But it seems the email address in the Webwiz email configuration form has to be one ON THAT DOMAIN--for this server company, anyway.

Have tried that and it seems to work.  PHEW . . .

To prevent spammers some hosts do setup their SMTP servers to only relay on emails that are addressed to local email addresses.

Contact your web host again and ask if they do have a work around for this that will allow you to send email to other users when using CDONTS.
