Suddenly upload crashes

I just noticed my avatar missing the other day so I tried to re-upload the file.  When I do I get the following error message:
 
Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 800401f3'

Server.CreateObject Failed

/forum/forum/functions/functions_upload.asp, line 288

Invalid ProgID. For additional information specific to this message please visit the Microsoft Online Support site located at: http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp.

Here is line 288:
   Set objUpload = Server.CreateObject("aspSmartUpload.SmartUpload")
 

We can still link avatars from other urls and Avatars upload prior to Nov or that are resident to Web Wiz Forums still appear.
 
I have tried switching to other upload methods but only Persits does not crash and then it fails to upload and returns to the upload dialog box.

The error means that the upload component that you are trying to use is not installed on the web server.

Update your upload settings from the admin section to an upload component that is installed on the server.

I kinda thought that but I had tried switching to other upload methods but only Persits does not crash and then it apparently fails to upload and returns to the upload dialog box
 
When I examine the /uploads directory the file is there but it still does not appear in the forums unless I enter the path to the location of the file in the /uploads directory

The avatar upload bug is listed under known issues with version 8, and will be fixed before the final release.
