Arna, I see from a post in the requests forum that you are requesting anti-spam measures that are already part of Web Wiz Forums.

I would recommend that you read through the page below to ensure that you have implemented all the anti-spam measures available in Web Wiz Forums:-

Thank you once again, Bruce, for your kind reply.

It's always nice to know in what direction the development of WebWiz is heading, and of course support of new browsers should be a major priority.

Our site today added an auto-suspension feature in register.asp based on geolocation for accounts established via computers in countries known to establish "spam accounts". We hope that this will prove somewhat helpful in fighting spam, since our site was indeed virtually littered with hundreds of accounts and thousand of unreadable postings from elsewhere in the world this autumn.

Our solutions is somewhat hardcoded, of course, limiting the number of countries given direct access to establish accounts with email activation to the few countries where the bulk of our contributors reside.

Rest of the newly created accounts are suspended from the start on, alerting webmaster via mail of those new registrations. Webmaster is given details such as geolocated country (and more info could later be added such as town etc. if those spammers try to tunnel to local de-localization facilities), IP-address, username etc. so that the accounts in question can be investigated further, and either be de-suspended (given OK user accounts) or deleted manually.

Even though this half-moderated solution still will put a certain burden upon the shoulders of the webmaster, we believe that the few lines of VB Script added to register.asp will be a step forward in fighting the kind of spam in question - manual spam from relatively low-paid workers in developing countries.

Sincerely yours,

Arna.
