We did trial 64-bit at the start of this year but found that it broke many customers websites.
The 32-bit version of PHP offers better compatibility, better resource usage and and due to the reduced memory pointers better performance.
You would only need the 64-bit version of PHP if your website required more than 2 GB of memory to run PHP. If your website did require 2 GB of memory then a Dedicated Server would be a better option where you can have the 64-bit version of PHP installed.
Each website runs PHP in multiple threads for additional performance. Each of those threads would need to use more than 2 GB of RAM before it would be necessary to use the 64-bit versions of PHP.
