Header and cookie problem

I am using megaBB and have decided to evaluate Web Wiz to ascertain whether to switch over to Web Wiz but in doing so
have come across a problem with including a site navigation within the
header of the forum.

It seems that as default if you add a new post, leave and come back to
the site and read the post, leave again and come back to the site it is
showing that the post has been read - good thus far. BUT, when I
include a site navigation structure in the header it seems to screw up
the cookie as when I come back to the site the post is still showing
that it is unread.
