Use FireFox - you can turn off most referrer info.

In the web developer toolbar... Disable | Disable Referrers
If you don't use the developer toolbar, enter about:config in the address bar then on the page that shows you the config options, change the value for network.http.sendRefererHeader 0: Never send the referring URL 1: Send only on clicked links 2 (default): Send for links and images
(Right-click to change the value of a configuration option)
Most firewall software - e.g. Symantec, ZoneAlarm, etc. also has the ability to either put a in blank referrer or anything you want.

I recall when installing Firefox the installation wizard will have an option to have the developer tools installed.
