Unlimited is never unlimited.  They will cut you off at a certain point.

True, no such thing as unlimited. It's always metered or monitored and once you hit a certain threshold they lower the boom.

If you find a host that advertises unmetered bandwidth though, let us know.

EDIT: http://webhostingtalk.com/ is generaly thought to be the best (IMHO) source of web host info.

well unlimited usually means a reasonable 10-20GB per month as an accecptable policy.. as soon as u hit.. 20+GB.. u will be recieving email form the CEO telling you had been abusing / over consuming the bandwidth...

in othe cases, the catch would be a lot of websites hosted on the same physical server.. i was checking out some host who offered unlimited bandwidth.. they were hosting something like 170-225 websites / server

How can a company get away with saying unlimited when it isn't?

I usually find that although a company says unlimited bandwidth that it is sort of correct, but they usually have a policy that if you monopolise the server they will kick you of.

This is because sites that usually use allot of bandwidth also have allot of visitors, more visitors the more server resources you use and the less resources for other users.

If you find a host that allows you un-limited bandwidth on a dedicated server then this is often more correct, as you can use as much bandwidth as you like as you are not affecting other users. (although in this case watch out for a policy that says monopolising the network resources).
