Could someone please give me a refreshed on how to download the web database without causing it to crash etc. Should one take the site offline? How?

 

Also, what is the right and wrong way to do backups from a website database so that in the event of a website database corruption one still has a database?

What causes a data corruption-too many users etc? Writing to a databse when it is being ftp downloaded?

To back up an access database on a webserver, you could copy and paste the file in FTP, and the download the copied one and then delete it.

Corrupted databases can be caused by numerous reasons, but mainly they would be caused by coding problems, IE forgetting to drop database objects.

my ftp (ws_ftp doesnt have a copy function for web site based items.

 

Anyone know one that does?

 

Another question. How big is too big on an access database. I have a3 MB databse now and plan to put much more on it so when is it going to cause me issues?

hmmm... access databases wernt really designed for web use.  Your probably ok on anything up to around 500mb I think, apparently it can support a few gigs but I wouldnt trust it.

Safeish up to 500MB?? If thats not a typo I should be ok as I dont have that much stuff to upload

I imagine I will transfer to a SQL at a later date

Defintatly go for SQL if you can, saves so much time and headaches!

Access was not originaly designed for web use, its only good really for providing the user with a good graphical interface for basic office work and software development.
