Apologies to borg---I stand corrected and thanks for backing it up Michael.

I checked the documentation and the connections are indeed hard-coded into 2k Pro at 10 connections. 2k Server and Adv Server have unlimited connection capabilities.

TTsupra--Why don't you check out borg's hosting? Afterall, you get the forum pre-installed I believe!

there is no catch... you cant use up all of the server's bandwith, which you shouldnt do unless you are running a Yahoo style site, or a porn site with lots of images. The package includes 1 domain( a .com or whatever), 2 subdomains (anything.yoursite.com), unlimited Email accounts/pop boxes, unlimited e-mail redirecton, unlimited upload, unlimited space, and the list goes on & on... http://www.hostonce.com/ - they have CDONTS installed, but Im tryin to get them to install a dif Upload component

if you are still looking for a solution i have a solution... try to keep up.

this solution is if you are trying to support a website on your own computer with dynamic ip address without paying anything.  but there are drawbacks, your website will not be .com, .net., etc. but at least it will not be like .cjb.net or da.ru .. it will be a simple.

first of all, if IIS is getting too complicated, you can download Apache server from
www.apache.org   Apache server is one of the leading server software on the net.
At the website you can download an automatic installer version which would be easier to setup.

all your webpages will go into the folder "htdocs"

after you have installed your apache server, your website address will be http://your_ip_address .   now this is a little ugly from my point of view.
to fix this, it will get a little complicated now.

go to www.no-ip.com and sign up for free dns/dynamic ip redirect service.
enter the name you want for your website but it doesnt have to be anything really yet. just put something that wont be taken yet because this name is not really important as of yet.  so after you have setup your dns service, your web address will be
http://what_you_picked.no-ip.com . this is alittle long, i know but this is a free dns service so hush. what this service really does it that when someone types
http://what_you_picked.no-ip.com, it will go to your website.

now to cope with this long url problem, go to www.dot.tk and sign up for an account, this is the time where you want to think hard for a good short name. now your address will be what_you_picked.tk   . very short isnt it?!   .tk, 2 letters.  during the setup, it will ask for your "homepage". just input http://what_you_picked.no-ip.com ... next, next, next. fininshed. sort of.  after that, you need to login and go to "my marketing" , from there, uncheck the banner option.

*poof*, there you go. now you have your very own website, on your own computer, and it was all free.

this is what happens,  someone types http://what_you_picked.tk , .tk services will redirect them to http://what_you_picked.no-ip.com, no-ip.com services will redirect them to your IP address and eventually to your web server.  by the way, when i meant redirect, i didnt mean that it starts a new window, but instead an iframe inside and inframe so the user wont even notice that it was redirected at all.

now you have your own webserver, with a short URL, and no popup/banners/ads !!!

problems that may occur :

1)  in order for any one to view the website, the web server must be running. what i did is find an old computer and kept that on 24/7 ... make sure it doesnt overheat and your platform is stable. each OS varies. i have seen windows 98 stay on for eternity while another windows 98 has to restart every hour.

2)  if you have a router you may need to open up your port 80.  to do this, you must go to fowarding. i only know how to do this for a linksys router, sorry. for a linksys, open up your browser and enter http://192.168.0.1 , this SHOULD be your router's ip address but if its not, then you are on your own. it will prompt you for a password if you try to login.  the standard password for a linksys router is  USERNAME= "none"  /   PASSWORD= admin  .  go to advanced setup/options , select forwarding.  go to port 80, and enter the server's LAN ip address and select enable. i will not go into detail for this message is already long enough.

3)  if you have a firewall software, you are on your own. i dont know anything about them, ie black ice, zone alarm.

--------------------------

i guess that its.
good luck webhosting.

ps. one more thing, if you dont want to setup a web server on your own computer, just use a free hosting service. i use www.geocities.com sometimes because they have fast connections and large bandwidth. 3 gb i think. that is plenty enough.  they have banners but just search for "no banner script geocities" in www.google.com, and you find a html code that stops the banner from poping up.  then you can have .tk redirect the site to a shorter name.

I KNOW THIS WAS A LONG MESSAGE BUT IT WORKS.
