Netscape only support RTE fetaures from version 7.1, which uses Mozilla 1.3, so if either are previous versions it won't work.

Have a look at the Mozilla Specs for enabling design mode in Mozilla/Netscape:-

http://www.mozilla.org/editor/midas-spec.html

One small thing you must watch for is that if you are creating an iframe you need to build in a delay of around 100 milliseconds to give Mozilla/Netscape a few secounds to recognise the new iframe before you enable design mode on it.

I am trying to make a simple RTE which is compatible with mozilla, netscape and IE.

It works with IE. I can now enter text into the iframe but none of the JavaScript works. I also had a look at that site you recommended it still doesnt work.
