    Posted: 22 January 2004 at 12:15pm

Hi, I'm a newbie to this forum and I have a forum where we have an undesirable character keep posting offensive messages, if I delete him he just registers as another member name, often cloning existing members names withe the number 1 after.

I have his IP address and I have selected it for IP address banning.

To check this works I have registered as a new member and posted a message myself from a friends PC and then banned that IP address, however if I go to the forum on my friends PC I can still post messages, am I doing something wrong?

I have not deleted my new registration user name on the forum, hope this makes sense.

After banning my own IP address from my office PC (I am the administrator) I then went to my friends PC and posted a new message. I checked the IP address and was still the same one as before, that shows above the message.

IP banning will never be accurate, and if you do ban IP's you run the risk of innocent people not allowed access. If we had easy access to MAC addresses this whole situation would be differant.
