Cry I had everything working last night on my localhost server on my laptop using just the "forum" folder. I have XP Pro but the asp files were just fine. I tried to add it to my site under the folder for my site in it's own folder called "forum" on my web server and the default.asp page and the forum_topics page came up fine. However, when I try to click on the actual topic, I get this error:

The page cannot be displayed

There is a problem with the page you are trying to reach and it cannot be displayed.

Please try the following:

  • Open the baneoftheaegis.com home page, and then look for links to the information you want.
  • Click the refresh.gif %2882 bytes%29 Refresh button, or try again later.
  • Click search.gif %28114 bytes%29 Search to look for information on the Internet.
  • You can also see a list of related sites.

HTTP 500 - Internal server error
Internet Explorer

I am using the Access version and am running Windows Server 2003 on my web server. I started all over again on my laptop by deleting everything to do with this forum. I reinstalled it and when I bring up the default.asp page, it trys to put my site logo at the top. Why? There is nothing associated with it. It should be a fresh untouched forum. Even the text colors are as I changed them for my site. I am confused as to why it won't work locally now or on my web server. I kept the all the files that I reconfigured to match the look and feel of my site and that won't work either.
A side note - since I run Server 2003, I am not sure how to get the email part to work. I have a separate exchange server that is not running yet. I have a feeling that I won't be able to use the email part of this. BTW, the site is for a guild that I belong to for an MMORPG game that I play. I built the site for practice and have been asked to add a forum to it. This is becoming more difficult than I first imagined. I don't want to have to spend money for a forum that is ASP.NET for something that I didn't charge to build and would have to buy over and over again for sites that I charge to build.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. Cry

First you need to turn off friendly HTTP error message in IE so you get what the actual error is, but my guess this is a permissions issue and you need to have sufficient permissions for the servers IUSR account to write to the Access database file.

Windows 2003 IIS comes with an SMTP server and CDOSYS, if you enable IIS's SMTP server to send mail you just need to select CDOSYS in the forums admin area and enter 'localhost' as the SMTP server.

Hello: I had some problems yesterday with my server...for some reason IIS disappeared. My husband reinstalled Win2003 Server and I got all sites running again. However, the forum pages for a certain site do not work. It is giving me a 404 error. The pages are there, permissions have not changed, so I don't have any idea what is going on. I realize that I need to upgrade to the latest version of the forum but have been putting it off. Any help to get the forum functional again would be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you sure it's a 404 error and not a 500 internal server error.

You need to turn off friendly HTTP error messages in IE so you get an accurate error message.

Yes it is a 404 error. I do have friendly error messages turned off. I copied the forum from my live server to my local server and everything is there. I tried doing the db upgrade and got a bunch of errors. I will let you know those errors tomorrow. Thanks.
