I am having a hard time getting latest new topics on my website. There are several mods for latest posts, but that gives ones with the latest response. What I want is a list of new topics created, regardless of when and if they were replied to.
Example:
Subject: Latest New Topic
Date: 9/14/2006
Message: This is the latest new topic. And the first 40 characters would be listed here and then... (read more)
It would not display the message of the latest reply, but only and always show the message of the first post in a topic.
This is useful for when only an administrator can post new topics in a forum area, and you want to announce the new topics elsewhere on the site. In that situation, you do not want to display the replies, only the first post.
Any ideas of the proper SQL to do that. Every example I see seems to show how to get the last post in the thread (i.e. the latest reply), not the first post of a thread (the original topic-starter post).
Any help would be appreciated.
