The problem I find with LCD monitors is that they often blur slightly as they can not refresh fast enough.
This is OK in most use, but for programming it can be a problem as when you scroll through code looking for an error it makes the text look slightly blured as you scroll.
This can course you bad eyestrain if like me you spend half your life scrolling through lines of code loooking for an error in your code.
I would suggest before you buy the monitor is to find one on display somewhere, load up a text file and try scrolling or dragging it around the screen and see if the text blurs, if it does and you do allot of programming you maybe better buying an old type CRT monitor.

I don't think that is too much of an issue anymore, Sure some time ago most LCD's had a refresh of 15-29ms but today you can get some under 16ms which will not blurr the screen anymore. If I take a page of code and scroll like crazy it looks like CRT now.

Every LCD I've used is inferior to a CRT. I don't bother with LCD's because even if they are up to par (which I'm sure they are by now since I've checked), you can still get a far superiour CRT for the money you spend.
The only LCD's I've seen that compare to good CRTs are 2~3 thousand dollars or more. I've got enough space on my desk for that price, and I live in the most expensive area in Seoul, which isn't cheap. We've got a way to go before LCDs reach near CRTs in the price category.

For years I used to advise people buying PC's that they should put money into buying the CRT at the expense of other PC components as everything else would get cheaper, but CRT prices were stable so they'd get more life out of the investment.
Now CRT prices are pretty cheap and I advise that for Bang-for-the-Buck, go with a CRT instead of an LCD unless your space situation is critical.

I have no space, CRT's look old-fashioned (yuck) and the picture/quality is more then enough for me. I can play UT2004 on my LCD with no hitches whatsoever using max resolution and details. Personally I would never trade for a CRT again, but I guess it always has to do with wallet/favour

After I got my Laptop with a 15'' LCD with 6hz @ 1400x1050 I have decided not to have a CRT monitor ever again(maybe 100hz but that's as expensive as LCD)!
It's just so much more comfortable to look at! and it doesn't reflect windows in front of it

I got a samsung 172x. I also used to think crt was better than lcd.
After getting this screen though i am a convert. This lcd is better
than my old crt and it was a good crt that i had.

todays all lcd ships under 20ms infact average lcd's are 16ms or less.. pretty good enough to do everything.. even watching high motion movies and games..
my problem is that i spend too much time of pc.. beside that a lot of newer feather light compact furniture cant bear the weight of crt's
tho i spend most of my time on laptop so never botherd for a desktop lcd but now i think its time for crt to go..lcd welcome..
thanks to my father working for a korean company.. i can get 25% off on their products..
on purhcase of 17 or 19 inch lcd i will easily enough to buy me a 256mb gfx card if mood strikes for some serious gaming tho im not a gaming fan
