Although I have been using webwiz for a couple of weeks, and had no problems this morning, now suddenly whenever I logout from either the Admin Control Panel or the Members forum, it is redirecting to forums.html which didn't exist.  ( I created a blank one but as far as I know have made no code changes before this started happening )

The only place I can find any redirection to forums.html is in the web.config defaults section which I have not changed.  Taking those 2 web.config sections out makes no difference, it is still redirecting.
Help please.

For reasons completely unknown, the forum has returned to normal!
But it still displays /forum/forums.html in the firefox browser URL

Is there a back door into this that could have been used?
I can't find any wrong ip's in my iis log.

forums.html is the homepage of the forum which is processed internally by default.asp. A URL Rewrite rule in the web.config sets which internal files process URL's within the forum.

To use URL Rewriting make sure you have the IIS URL Rewrite Module installed on the web server and enable 'URL Rewriting' enabled in the SEO page in the admin area.

Thanks, but although I have IIS URL Rewrite, I have not enabled the SEO setting (although if I may say so, that's not an obvious place for it) or installed your module.

So first, presumably then, none of your web.config rewrite section is active?
second why did this disruption happen in the first place?
third why did it revert to normal without action?
fourth, if the rewrite is not installed why does it display forums.html in the browser url?

Also, I have enabled CustomItem1 to contain our member numbers, and set the Viewed in Member Profile:to yes, but I cannot find this field anywhere when updating a member record.

Sorry if I'm being a nuisance, but trying to understand the logic here.

The web.config with the rewrite rules use to not be included, you had to download it separately, so a switch was required to turn it on and off. It is now included with the rest of the files as most servers have IIS Rewrite installed and is enabled by default.

The options are in the SEO page, as URL Rewriting creates friendly URL's that contain dynamic page titles which improves the indexing of the forum by search engines.

The forum homepage is forums.html and this is usual behaviour going to  forums.html page when you logout. This is by design and takes the user to the forums homepage.

You mention that you created a blank forum.html page, you did not say why you did this or what disruption you had. It might well be the blank forum.html page you created stopped the forum from working correctly.

Please help me understand.  The web.config is there, but I have the SEO URL Rewrite disabled (as it was by default, although you just said it was enabled by default). So in theory being disabled means it is not being used?
However, when the faulty logout was trying to go to forums.html, I was getting an error because there was no such file, so that indicated that URL Rewriting is happening despite being theoretically disabled.  Probably IIS overrides your setting?
That's why I created a blank one temporarily so as to see if it really was being redirected there, which it was.
I have removed the blank forums.html, but that still doesn't explain the 2 faulty logout periods or why they reverted to normal.  And if as you say, that is the default home page, why is not there by default?  What is displayed on logout is default.asp but the browser URL says differently.
