Occasionally Web Wiz Forums owners forget login details to their Admin Account and therefore can not login to administrator Web Wiz Forums.

The problem is that passwords are 106bit one way encrypted for security reasons so hackers can not get hold of your password. This means passwords can not be recovered, however, before you completely panic there are some options available to you to reset your admin passwords.

The simplest way, if you have set an email address for the Admin Account and have the email features of Web Wiz Forums correctly setup and enabled, is to use the Forgotten Password page from the login page to request a new password be sent to the email address entered for the admin account.

If you are unable to request a new password by email then the last option is to manually reset the password in the database following the steps below:-

  1. Open the database in a database management tool
  2. Open the database table 'tblAuthor'
  3. Find record with the 'Author_ID' with the value of '1', this is your Admin Account record
  4. Copy and paste the following to the 'Username' field:-

    administrator

  5. Copy and paste the following to the 'Password' field:-

    A85B3E67CFA695D711570FB9822C0CF82871903B

  6. Copy and paste the following to the 'Salt' field:-

    72964E7

  7. Your Web Wiz Forums Admin Account username and password should now be reset to:-
    • Username: administrator
    • Password: letmein

The easiest option would be for admin to edit the users profile and give them a temporary password so the user can login, and then request the user to change their own password Thumbs Up Hope that helps

If I am understanding you correctly the 8.05 help says this:

"If you have lost your password then don't panic. Although passwords can not be retrieved they can be reset. To reset your password click on the Login button and at the bottom of the login page you will have a link to the lost password page to request that a new password be emailed to you. If this option is not available or you do not have a valid email address in your profile then you need to contact the Forum Administrator or a Moderator and ask them to change your password for you"

Unless a user registers with a valid email address, I would assume then that the Lost Password option would not be available

Hi,
I am running Web Wiz forum version 9.54, I could  previously  see "Forgot Password" tools in Login page but I can not see it now .
Also when I manually browse the "forgotten_password.asp" page it redirects to "Default.asp" page.
Please help me about this issue.

Best regards
