    Posted: 11 October 2003 at 11:52am

I posted this originally in General Discussion and haven't gotten an answer from anyone, I am hoping if I post here I can get some help, please excuse the double post.

I hope someone can help me.

Recently I stopped receiving the email notification of a new post on watched forums......I didn't  change anything, it was working before, but now it's not.

To add to my problem,

I have an idiot coming on my board and posting things that are not acceptable, I have blocked the i.p. address each time and added the wild card as well,  I now have a list of 20 i.p.'s for this person and they are still getting in!

The i.p.'s are running real close to each other, I block the exact address then duplicate it except with a wild card at the end, but for some reason they always come up with a new one.

Well this little turd is changing every single time! Making me nuts...I can't get rid of them   they are on a dial-up

So now I have changed the settings on my forum so that they have to enter a valid email address and click the link to join from an auto email sent to them to verify, BUT for some reason my forum has quit sending the notification emails.......

I have tested it and I can send an email to another member through the forum, but the forum is not sending notifications such as to a new member or even notify me when someone answers my post, or my watched forums.

My motivation for changing the sign up is so I can block thier email address to keep them from signing up.  I keep deleting thier user name each time and blocking each new ip address........I think this new way would help by requiring them to enter a valid email address except, any other new members that may want to join won't be able to join as the responding emailer is not working properly to get the link to them so they can get in.

HELP!!! PLEASE!!!

My site is hosted on an NT server, I have my mailer set for the CDONTS.......like I said it was working before (all the notifications) I haven't changed any of the settings, it has stopped sending the notifications, but I can send email to another member through the forum, It will even send a copy to the sender.

This is so frustrating as I am not using the free version, I paid for this and would like to find some customer support PLEASE!

Thank you all for testing!!

Sorry I should of posted right away that I figured it out.  IN case anyone working with Front Page has the same problem this is what happened.

I know when I installed this that it highly recommends not using front page, but alas that is my editor.  I had to reset my FP extensions a while back and when I did it broke the connection to the database.

After posting my plea for help I went in with my Front Page went to TOOLS>WEB SETTINGS>DATABASES>VERIFY  and wal-la!! It now works!

SO now the little trouble maker has to put in a valid email to sign up and click on the verify link from the email the database sends em and I can block the email addresses and I won't have to deal with the ever changing IP addresses! (which I didn't have it set for that before, but now i see the advantage in requiring an email address, learned the hard way)

There's more than one way to skin a cat!   I was determined this person was not gonna beat me!   It was actually a good learning experience!

Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions!!

Well I am glad I could teach you guys something! You are all so good with this forum, and know so much about the ASP thing, I am just taking baby steps here.

I have another question though.  ON several of the sites I have looked at that are using this forum, including this one, The Home page has a little section on it showing the "Latest Posts to the Forum" and when I click on the link it takes me to that string.

My question is:  How do you do that?  I am assuming it is a page include, maybe?

I would like to put the same sort of thing on my home page.  Hopefully someone can hold my hand and tell me how?
