The default skin has quite a large minimum height for each post. Presumably this is to accommodate the avatar, location info, number of posts etc. in the left column. If posts in a forum are generally short, and avatars etc. are turned off or generally not used, this leads to a lot of empty vertical space.

Is there a setting I'm missing to reduce the minimum height? Or a skin or mod that reduces it? I've tried searching the KB and forums for terms that come to mind, but maybe as a newbie I'm not yet speaking the right language...

Does the lack of answers mean that I'm daft to want this, or daft because I can't do something so simple? Embarrassed

Why can't I look at the HTML source of the forum pages from a browser (IE7) with View Source (nothing happens) or Save As (IE gives an error "The web page could not be saved because one of its files is missing")? Any workaround for those?

I beleive the minimum height setting is set in the CSS Files.

You should be able to view source in any browser. If you can't have a look at your PC it could be some miss configuration settings, or internet security, AV software, etc. which is coursing it to not allot you to view the source code.

Thanks, Bruce. I've tried on a couple of forums and a couple of PCs, both have the same issues using IE7. Firefox on Ubuntu could View Source fine, so I can now see the problem: the table row for message content is defined as:
<tr class="msgOddTableRow" style="height:200px;min-height:200px;">
No doubt this is easy enough to change in the .asp files, so I'll try that after the Easter break.

Yep, change both occurrences of 200 to 100 in line 1134 of forum_posts.asp. Rather better looking, IMHO.
