Hi there

I've not the time to search if this was posted before, sorry!

The following things I've seen some minutes ago:

- If i move a topic to another forum then it's still counted in the old forum, but is not counted in the new forum. If I resync the forum (admin area) the countings will be corrected. Is there a way that it will autocorrect if i move a topic?

- When I click on the move button a popup is displayed where I can select the new forum, ok. The second step ist to select an already existing topic or enter the name of a new topic. Is it possible to put a new button "use original title" to this step? It's a bit boring to enter the same title as before everytime I move a topic.

That's it for the moment. Thank you very much for this fantastic forum, -borg-! I had and still have lot of fun with it :)

Greetings
Chris

There is code to update the forum stat counts automatically, but as this code is not running correctly you must be using Access.

Access can on some slower servers take time to update, this means that when the code attempts to update the stats for the forum, the database has not yet finished updating, thus the stat are incorrect.

I was hoping that web hosts had got it together and the days of overloaded servers with slow updates were past, but looks like they are still with us. I will have to look into putting some sort of delay into the Access version to give the database time to update.

As to your other question of copying across the old title, I have added this to the Web Wiz Forums Task List, so you may see this in future versions.

Hi -borg-

I forgot... yes I'm using access :)
I don't understand your statement... I've seen no update after minutes, not just after some seconds. I moved about 10 Topics and 5-10mins later I reentered the forum. Counts were still the same. I've reloaded the page manually (because I thinked it was my cache) but nothing happends. Only after resync in adminpanel the counts were updated...

Thank for adding it to the Task List - hope to see it soon :)

What happens is when the 'Move Topics' file is run the topic is moved then immediately after the topic count is resynced.

However, on slower servers if Access takes a few milliseconds to update, instead of immediately then when the code to resync the topics is run the database has not yet fully updated, thus the resync part fails and needs to be run manually.

This type of thing only effects Access and only on slower servers. The time to update is only a few milliseconds which would be un-noticeable to yourself, but is long enough that the proceeding code after the update will not have the correct info to run.

Hi -borg- again

Is there a way to change the admin-resync tool that it will be executed when a topic was moved? Just a small hack for the moment... :)

Another thing:
Is there a way to move COMPLETE threads or can I just move single messages?

When you move a post and/or topic the 'Resync Tool' from the admin area is called (or at least the exact same code).

The problem is that in your case because your server is a bit slow and you are using Access because the 'Resync' code is called directly after the database update, the database is returning old data to the 'Resync' code thus the problem.

The only way to overcome this is to build in a delay for Access so it has time to update itself before the the 'Resync' code is run, or run it as a manual process after the move is complete.
