Topic: MS SQL Manager Posted: 14 October 2003 at 4:21pm |

Ok, I'm going to try the MS SQL verison of this forum. Can someone tell me what a good (free is better) manager for MS SQL is? Is there a MSSQL Front, that works like MySQL Front? I cannot get the Microsoft manager, because I dont have any way to get the Developer Edition of SQL Server right now. I know that the trial version also includes the manager, and the tools don't expire, but I have dialup and downloading it would take forever.

I use a program a friend of mine coded for him so that he wouldn't have to use the slow Enterprise Manager. It's called DBManager. I will ask if he will let me send it out to folks.

Wow. That WinSQL program seems like a dream come true. Downloading it now. If it can actaully power MS SQL and MySQL all in the same application it's well worth the money.
Thanks!

MS have just released a free: web-based 'enterprise manager', that looks OK.
Cheers, Andrew

Greate! I'll check that out too. I'm not having much luck with the WinSQL program, so right now I'm just using Microsoft Access 2002 with MSDE to connect to the MS SQL database, and so far it's working greate! Seing as how the sql_setup file generates all the tables via code. I still have all the basic features, I think my only downfall is not being able to backup the database.
Thanks for the help!
Edit:
Actually I just gave it another swing, and got the WinSQL Professional running. It looks like everythings working correctly, but I want to make sure I'm doing things right, seeing as I'm just starting with MS SQL and I've never used WinSQL before. The most important thing to me is being able to backup my database 100%, I want everything backed up, structure and data. Can I get some information on how to do this via WinSQL. I checked there help documents but it dosen't look like there all that detailed... at least the ones that I found.

One of the best I have used, which I posted in the database section of
this forum is called DBAMGR2k..It is FANTASTIC. It allows you to use
MSDE7/2000 and SQL7/2000. It has full source code in Visual Basic.
