I've been tasked with the job of finding a suitable search application for our network files.
We have a number of network drives, which include documents such as PDF, DOC, XLS, PHP etc, and we'd like to be able to search these instantaneously.
I've looked at using Windows Indexing Service, but it's very limited, and isn't easy to highlight searched terms in the results etc.
Also looking at Google Desktop for Enterprise, but that's basically Google Desktop rolled out via AD / Group Policy etc. I have Microsofts Search Server installed, but it's not very straightforward, and a bit too much for our liking.
Key features would be;
- Web based search interface
- Can search network shares and index (and search within) PDF, DOC, XLS documents
- Possibly coded in PHP (our Intranet will be coded in PHP)
Does anyone have any suggestions on products / open source applications available?
