Hi all,

I hope someone can help me... I am trying to put up a forum on a Secure Site - (SSL 128, its a https://site - https://site ) - BUT I have uploaded everything and it seems to work fine, the only MAIN issue is that you can't log in??

I have tried to log in the Admin Panel and it keeps saying insuffient Permission - I am completely confused!??  There is no reason why it should do this, I have set Read, Write & Delete settings on the server??

PLEASE HELP ASAP!!!  I have set up a few of these forums and would say I am not a newbie, but this has completely stumped me??

Thanks -boRg- for giving me that idea , and taking the time to answer

But it seems everyone blames XP or some sort of cookie corruption?? Well I should expand on what actually happens.

  1. I have deleted EVERY single temp internet file including ALL cookies - Then restarted my computer
  2. I have used a different computer
  3. I use AVANT browser, also tried IE6
  4. Have took it down and uploaded it again.
  5. Have downloaded the latest copy of WWF and uploaded that - Still same problem
  6. I use the same forum on my other site, and I log on VERY regulary on that and this site - AND never had a problem??
  7. The new forum is on a HTTPS:// - SSL - Secure Server
  8. It has a dedicated IP address

Well thats about as much as I can think of, if anyone has any ideas it would be very much appreciated.  Or if there is a Senior Member who I can post a link to so they can see first hand.

I have an SSL cert on a customer site and have tried logging in and using the WWF ... and all works OK.

WHat is the hosting setup?  Eg is there a server farm / load balancing occuring?

You haven't searched correctly on this as I have written what prevents cookies being written in 100's of posts.

Things that stop your site from settings cookies include, URL masking, IP masking, domain masking, frames, etc.

Also try another browser like Mozilla to workout if this is an IE issue.

Thanks again - I shall do a thorough search and take some time reading the older posts.

I have asked the hosting setup question to my hosts, and as I am using Avant browser that should mean its not just an IE issue - Shouldn't it?

Dunno how you answer all these questions, my head would be spinning  - Thanks again

Also I have just had this back from the hosts

"tell him there is not a server farm or load balancing, just a win2003 server so it could be permissions that are causing this"

Does that mean I should shout at them to sort it out??

It could still be an IE issue.

Advant uses the IE engine, just a different interface, so would be the same as testing in IE. Try downloading and use a different browser like Moizlla Firebird, http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ - http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ , it's also a much better faster browser than IE anyway.

I don't see how this could be a permissions problem, but rather some issue with either cookies or the ASP session keeps getting reset.

I wonder, is there a domain name seller that actually ''supports'' the way cookies are written in wwf?

I'm now stuck with one for another year that uses domain url masking. It's a bit sloppy to have my ip for a website addy .

Damn - Have downloaded Mozilla and it does exactly the same!

This forum is integrated into a CandyPress store, do you think that would effect it??

I would very much doubt it.  Ive got a Heavily modified CPress stored integrated with WWF and all works OK (with and without SSL)

No it "shouldn't help", but it cant hurt.

Create a text file by the name of global.asa in the root of your www site.

I had a look and it it trying to get through.

But it does look like a cookie issue.

Looking at my cookie cach after tryiny to login, for some reason the path for the cookie is being set as:-

/usautomotive.co.uk_ssl

When the path shold be just /, this is coursing the browser to have difficulties reading back in the cookie.

Maybe your host can help out with this.

If not you will have to find all places the forum sets cookies and manually set the cookie path using:-

Response.Cookies("cookieName").Path = "/"

Ok - This is last time I shall ask for help I promise  - My hosts have asked me this:-

...........
does the designer know the phrase to search for and what to replace it with, ie:

search for  Response.Cookies("cookieName").Path = "/" and replace with Response.Cookies("cookieName").Path = "/usautomotive.co.uk_ssl"
...........

??? - Is it going to be as simple as that??

I'm afraid not.

You need to get a program like UltraEdit and search for files that contain Response.Cookies

You then need to edit each of these files and put in the code for the path the cookie should be set to, for your server it will be:-

Response.Cookies("cookieName").Path = "/usautomotive.co.uk_ssl"

At present no path is set in the forum code for cookies, the reason for this is that it was found that by setting the path coursed problems with allot of servers.

Ok thanks for that, I just need to get one thing staright in my head

For example, below is a scetion of your code from the login page:

Response.Cookies("Forum")("UID") = strUserCode
   If CBool(Request.Form("ActiveUsers")) = False Then
    Response.Cookies("Forum")("Hide") = True
   Else
    Response.Cookies("Forum")("Hide") = False
   End If

Should it now be:-

Response.Cookies("cookieName").Path = "/usautomotive.co.uk_ssl"
("Forum")("UID") = strUserCode
   If CBool(Request.Form("ActiveUsers")) = False Then
    Response.Cookies("cookieName").Path = "/usautomotive.co.uk_ssl"
("Forum")("Hide") = True
   Else
    Response.Cookies("cookieName").Path = "/usautomotive.co.uk_ssl"
("Forum")("Hide") = False
   End If

Posted By: NISSANGTIR
Date Posted: 20 May 2004 at 6:35am
Well aparrently not - If I do add that after each Response.Cookies I get this message:-

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d'

Type mismatch: '[string: "/usautomotive.co.uk_"]'

/usautomotive.co.uk_ssl/forum/admin/common.asp, line 217

DOH!!  -boRg- I don't suppose I can pay you to sort this for me?? I will also pay for the link removal too  - Just need it sorted now.

Looks like you could be running an old version of the forum looking at that code, you should update to the latest version 7.8.

The part "cookieName" was only an example, you need to change this to the name of the cookie and place it before the cookie is set eg.:-

Response.Cookies("Forum").Path = "/usautomotive.co.uk_ssl"

Response.Cookies("Forum")("UID") = strUserCode
   If CBool(Request.Form("ActiveUsers")) = False Then
    Response.Cookies("Forum")("Hide") = True
   Else
    Response.Cookies("Forum")("Hide") = False
   End If

You just need to add the line before the cookie is set, not change any lines that are already there.

I was sure that would cure it, I have done what you have siad by putting

Response.Cookies("Forum").Path = "/usautomotive.co.uk_ssl"

Before every cookie is written and still I get the same message, you can see for yourself

https://usautomotive.co.uk/forum/admin/ - https://usautomotive.co.uk/forum/admin/

Any other suggestions??  Like I said I will glady pay for you to sort it out? - Thanks again for your patiance

What version are you using as you need to have the cookie name correct?

Sorry, I don't have the time to go through and make the changes for you.

If you are running the latest version the cookie name is stored in a variable so the correct code for version 7.8 is:-

Response.Cookies(strCookieName).Path = "/usautomotive.co.uk_ssl"

With no " around the name of the cookie, if "Forum" is the name of your cookie then you are running an old version and should upgrade to the latest version.

I've just had a look and you are running version 7.01, this is a very old version and you should upgrade to the latest version for security reasons.

Also the latest version (7.8) has other bug fixes, better performance, and more features.

Please see the following for just one reason to upgrade:-
