Is there a function either built in to vs.net or seperatly that will allow me to add a serial number to an MSI installer file.

Wise for Windows Installer or Wise for Visual Studio .Net is probably what you are looking for.. http://www.wise.com - Wise.com

InstallShield will also do the job, but I don't like it

hmmmm.. then I can't help you..

but shouldn't you afford it when you have enough money to get a corporate version of Server 2003? or did you use all your money on that

Good serial (protection) software is EXPENSIVE. Think $250.00 and up with $1,000.00 being an ok price.

BTW: I donated to WWF after I figured it out, which didn't take long. Protection for software is NOT easy.

Not embarassing at all.

Money of course! I use the software, so I donated money. The figuring out things was just for fun.

I've used VBOLock before. It's cheap - about $70.

There is a free one available, but it's been cracked and is not secure anymore. So, it's ok if you are too worried about cracking...
