Don't have one, but my 6MB Yahoo account got upgraded to 100MB  - Which is enough storage for simple email.

Whats so cool about Gmail when you can have your own spam free email at your own host?

Plus, sometimes I don't feel like giving out my normal domain name when signing up for stuff, because through that they find you name, address etc, so a hotmail, yahoo, google or whatever account just saves my anonymity

  • Gmail gives the disk space for email as my host allows for my entire site
  • Bandwidth on gmail is free as supposed to me paying for bandwidth on my server email (I get tons of crap now)
  • My hosts email web software, is, well, crap!  Gmail looks pretty nice
Can't wait for it's public release, I will be signing up for sure.

Converting from Hotmail might I also add.  I think Hotmail, Yahoo and AOL are going to suffer from Gmails introduction.

You might be interested in http://jaybe.org/info.htm - Pop Goes the GMail
Lets you use any POP3 client (e.g. Thunderbird, Eudora, Outlook Express, etc.) to retrieve Gmail. Still in Beta, but looking good so far. Has a support forum as well.

I'm sure we'll see several more of this type of program.

Not quite as good as the space being allowed on GMail, but Yahoo has raised their storage level and done some changes probably to compete with GMail and other email services.

I really like the gmail interface. Once you get used to using labels, its really fast to use it.

All the pages are pre-loaded so clicks are instant, rather than having loading delays.

I keep a hotmail account for posting to newsgroups through Outlook Express. Was able to set it up so it doesn't accept any mail - kind of a blackhole.

I keep a Hotmail account for MSN messenger and spam sites, a Yahoo account for some things because I've had since they first gave out 6MB accounts, but use my own domains/email servers for most things.

It's nice to see Yahoo attempt to keep up with Google - but it won't last too long. I think we'll see in the future that Google has a better architecture that nobody else can keep up with because they all have systems that do too much and can't compete with Google's dedicated purpose hardware/software.

Google hires smart people to solve small problems... That means that the problems are solved well. Nobody else does that. (Google is has more PhDs working for them than anyone else [per capita?].)

They will eventually come up with a "smart search" that will scan your recent activity to narrow searches based on your limited output - it's only a matter of time now.

Its a nice news for the yahoo users that recently yahoo is providing 100mb space whereas Gmail is providing 1gb. Its amazing.....we need not to bother abt the deletion of mails from inbox.......

It's very nice having a domain email account, but I still use my Hotmail account for things like Amazon, HMV and other e-commerce sites, also for important information involving my Uni and such. The main reason for this is Hotmail is always going to work and I don't need to pay for it so it's always there. So, if I forget to pay my host, I won't miss out any important emails because I get them to Hotmail.

in competition between big companies, users always get benefit from this, u all know that http://www.rediff.com - www.rediff.com offers 1 gb of mail storage and its for free and working now a days, so i can say that rediff is the first site to give such storage, while google is the first to introduce the 1 gb free email account.
